RINGLING COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN
SELBY GALLERY LECTURE HALL

This lecture explores the fabulous world of the Minoan and  Mycenaean civilizations
immortalized by Homer.  By stepping through time into their splendid palaces decorated
with scenes of courtly life, their special rituals are reconstructed along with the magnificent  costumes worn to carry them out, costumes of the utmost luxury, decorated with exquisite patterns and appliqués of gold and precious gems and topped with exquisite jewelry, costumes befitting queens and goddesses.  Modern replicas of the costumes on live models, posed as in art and juxtaposed with the sculptures and
paintings they imitate, virtually bring Homer’s heroines to life and continue to inspire
today.
