Fabulous Town Hall 2006!

TOWN HALL 2006 Chair Elizabeth Wery expanded TOWN HALL to include an evening series at the Van Wezel, and as a result, was able to make a record donation.

The 2006 season opened with acclaimed commentator Bill Moyers, who wowed audiences with his passion and insights. Mr. Moyers was also the special guest at the new Platinum Appreciation Dinner, a complimentary event that thanks TOWN HALL's Platinum-level subscribers.

Dr. Maya Angelou moved hearts and inspired minds with her songs, stories and poetry, and with her strength and dignity. She sang, she laughed, she told us stories. Most of all she encouraged each of us to be the 'composer' of our own lives, and those of others. Click here to read "A Brave and Startling Truth" by Dr. Angelou. When she was with us on January 25, 2006, Dr. Maya Angelou shared this poem from the stage during her evening lecture, and invited us to post it on our web site.
Former Clinton Secretary of Labor Robert Reich brought us illuminating new perspectives on making a living and building a life in America. He spoke on the topics of globalization, technology and educating our young people to live in the future.
Professor Amy Chua gave us quite an education, and challenged our assumptions about how western economics and ideals impact other cultures and populations around the world. Her insights made us question our assumptions about globalization - and provided a fascinating juxtaposition with Mr. Reich's remarks.
Four-star general, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell closed the season, weaving together insightful stories of his youth, military service and public life with humor and inspiration.

Subscribers agreed, it was an extraordinary TOWN HALL year. In her last message from the stage, TOWN HALL 2006 Chair Elizabeth Morrow Wery thanked her generous sponsors, her hard-working committee, and loyal TOWN HALL subscribers for a highly successful year. At the celebratory post-lecture reception with General Powell she said, "We worked hard to bring today's most compelling speakers to TOWN HALL for our audiences to enjoy, to support Kimbrough Library and to fund Ringling College student scholarships. I sincerely thank everyone who helped us to achieve and exceed our goals."
