Celebrating TOWN HALL 2007!

Ringling College Library Association's TOWN HALL tradition of excellence continued as Jennifer Vett and her committee brought a stellar group of speakers to Sarasota to enrich, enlighten and entertain our audiences.

Honors for opening the 2007 season fell to Sam Donaldson, whose warm and gregarious personality brought us all into his circle of experience with world leaders and unforgettable news events. Guests at the post-lecture luncheons and receptions had a special treat, as he told many more stories, and shared his opinions quite candidly.
"America's Mayor" and Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani was guest of honor at the Platinum Appreciation Dinner. He spoke about September 11, 2001, and the principals of leadership that have guided him throughout his life and his careers in law and politics.
The Former Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak, surprised us with his charm and warmth. He shared stories of his past as a fearless warrior and a tireless worker for peace in the Middle East. Extra security was a last-minute requirement.
Work trends expert Daniel Pink brought an interesting perspective: citing the trends of Abundance, Asia and Automation, Pink spoke about how the combination of left- and right-brained skills, with emphasis on creativity, collaboration and story-telling, will spell success for workers, now and in the future.
Accompanied by mascot stuffed animal "Mr. H," Dr. Jane Goodall spoke quietly, yet passionately, about her work with the chimpanzees, land and people of Africa. By combining education and creation of sustainable development and jobs, the Jane Goodall Institute works to save all three.
Quincy Delight Jones closed the season with warmth, humor and inspiration. Telling stories and showing videos of the artists he has worked with over the years, Quincy asked us all to "forgive an old grudge, call someone you miss, tell someone you love them, and try to stay up past 11:30!"
